Strait as the Gate (first published in 1909 in France as La Porte Etroite) was the novel that established Andre Gide in a position in the hierarchy of letters in France analogous to that of Joesph Conrad in England. Strait is the Gate "a searching analysis of the incompleteness and narrowness of the moral philosophy of Protestantism".
